About
I'm David Higdon — a creative director, brand designer, and writer based in Louisville, Kentucky.
I've spent 15 years solving problems with design. Not decorating them. Not putting a prettier face on something broken. Actually solving them — finding the idea at the center of a brand, a book, an organization, and building everything outward from there. That's the work I care about, and it's the only kind I'm interested in doing.
How I Think About Design
Design is a problem-solving discipline. That might sound clinical, but it's actually the most creatively demanding way to work — because the problem is always specific, the constraints are always real, and the solution has to function beautifully in the world, not just look good in a PDF.
I came up through design school, then spent equal time on the agency side and in-house — which means I've seen how brands are built from the outside and maintained from the inside. That dual perspective matters. Agency work teaches you to move fast, think broadly, and sell ideas. In-house work teaches you what it actually takes to make a brand live and breathe over time. I bring both to every project.
The result is a way of working that starts with strategy and ends with craft — and doesn't let either one off the hook.
